^ AL Kennedy is a woman... everyone* sees the name and assumes ALK is male, which even now - after 30 years of publishing under her initials - results in some pretty embarrassing happenings on book tours.  

I think ‘our time’ is basically anything 2016-onwards in the context of this collection, so it is absolutely deliberate and a well-timed coincidence that it was published in early April.



*Many years ago my 20-year-old self was guilty of such a mistake when I worked at a pretty high-profile literature festival, it was excruciatingly embarrassing for me, ALK was very kind, if rather weary, about it all.

I've just started to read "The Brain that changed itself" which  is the story of a stroke victim who was unable to feed himself or dress himself & how he learned to move & talk again..
The book is written by Norman Doidge who is a psychiatrist i& psychoanalyst n New York and is a leading Times bestselling author.
I think this book will be very interesting.

Dipping into "For The Record" by David Cameron, and about to tackle "The Far Pavillions" by MM Kaye.  I like to have a few things on the go.

I'm reading 'The Big Book of Angels' for the second time,  which my sister gave me a quite few years ago, after I had a very frightening experience in her house. LOL....I slept with it under my arm that night, while clutching a bottle of holy water in my hand, which she'd also given me and I've slept with it on my bedside table ever since! Very Happy

Got sidetracked.  Going again on "The Great Gatsby" (F Scott Fitzgerald), and "Cathedral" (Ben Hopkins), with "Jews Don't Count" (David Baddiel) on one side and still "The Far Pavillions" (MM Kaye) waiting.  I read "The End Of Eddy" (Edouard Louis) and "What Belongs To You" (Garth Greenwell) but felt they didn't live up to the hype.  That said I'd just read "In The Absence Of Men" (Philippe Besson) which was just breathtaking.
Oh and I've got "When Footballers Were Skint" (Jon Henderson) for downtime.
