£6000 for a cambelt? What car is it? Sorry to hear about that.

Citroen C8. It's a common problem. The Internet's alive with people who've tried to get Citroen to pay for the repairs, as the manuals say the cambelt should need replacing only every 100k miles (ours has done 50k).

Unfortunately, not many have had much success. We phoned our local Citroen garage. The guy said 'I'm a bit busy at the mo. We've had a national recall on the Picasso - 250,000 of them.'

If I ever go near a French car ever again, somebody shoot me.

Yeah, this year has been a series of major disasters. One after the other. The oasis in the desert was our holiday in France in three weeks' time... our driving holiday in France. Ahem.

Thanks. We have my car, although it's considerably smaller. Guess we won't be bringing as much vino back as we'd planned. Either that or we sacrifice a child.

Yeah I'd go with leaving a child behind Wink

Still don't see how a cambelt replacement would cost £6000. I would have guessed £1500 at most.

Hey Nigel, Sorry to hear that but have you thought of hiring a small trailer? That could be the answer!

Don't you think it might be a bit dangerous to transport a child in a trailer?

It's a Citroen thing. It's basically a new engine. They can't even take out the old one cleanly - they have to smash it up. French engineering. They should stick to croissants.

Are you kidding me? Do you mean to say that with the luggage and the booze in a trailer, there'd still be no room in the car for the kid?

Went and picked up my "new" second hand car tonight, stalled it twice on the way home, very hard to feel the bite point in it, just hope I get used to it fast, I get all panicky when I stall in case I can't get it started again.  I hate driving.  Rolling Eyes
