Who wants to play RTR on a more regular basis?

Quote

Hi people,

I would like to add tournaments to this RTR that is already set up. However there is no point I do so if im the only one that wants to play. Please submit your opinions and vote in the poll. Feel free to add anything you wish.

Deadline is set for the end of the AO.
Thanks for your time.

Sorry mate, I think we should stick to what we've got now and re-assess the situation at the end of the tennis year. I loved RTR when it first was launched, my proudest moment is winning the first tourney lmao but playing/counting the scores got WAY too tedious when it's weekly, you'll probably soon realise. I'll be joining the 'new' competition once I finish my A-Levels yay

Except that, using a handy spreadsheet form, it's not tedious at all. Especially if you let everyone run a tournament (i.e. do the scores like I am for Oz) and let anyone post up matchday threads. There's no need to restrict the game to "volunteers" or "mods". If it can work on other forum games (with copious amounts of volunteers) it can work here.

I think we should make it a best 18 scoring though, and have a tournament every week.

Sure, we can vote on it at the end of the year but I agree with Julia. And you might be fine doing the AO but once you start wanting people to do different tournaments so regularly then some people will fail on their duties now and again.

I'm sure they'll be loads of people who want to help.  I could certainly count the scores for a few weeks.

But it's not really duties. Anyone can post matchday threads really, and scores can wait. There's no rush for them. And there's always someone to take over if need be Smile

The poll results speak for themselves at the moment... I can't believe it's been a few days and already you guys think it's time to change the format. We hoped the new format would bring this competition back to life, it's done exactly that so let's not change it.

I'm with Mark on this - there is no way I can join in for every tournie, but I like being part of the competition (even if I have no hope of ever winning)

Continuing on from our related discussion in the other thread...

I don't understand what's so complicated. You are sooooo reluctant to change for anything it's unreal. lol
We voted a format to last an entire season of RTR, it would be undemocratic to now change that format again based on a minority but even if it wasn't a minority, it still would be wrong. It's been a few days into the new format and all signs suggest it has been a fantastic success.

I would play every week if we decided to do that, best 18 seems a good idea.

Seems to me like a majority want to play more often.  I don't see how having less of it can help it to come back?

The only tournament I can think of off the top of my head that I'd miss is Queen's, and that's more for the British factor more than anything else.  By the end of these two weeks I can easily see myself satiated.

Same here mate. I know i'm newish and i might get bored of it after a while but I think it's a good game and provided the tennis that week is interesting then it will work.

All comments noted, thanks for you suggestions, Well keep this poll open for another 7/8 days and have a review then. I would be happy to take a lead role in competitions as long as i'm free from college but in all honesty, it doesnt take that long to set up really.

Having been around these forums for quite a while (damn, is it three years already?), I've seen the previous years of RTRs and while the idea has tempted me in the past it had seemed to be a time consuming affair.  The cutting down of tournaments is one of the big reasons I'm taking part.  Though there are those who are used to the format and wish for more games, my advice to Sunni and others who are new to the concept is to wait for a month to see if the shine comes off.

If there are any plans to implement extra tournaments, all I request is that they have no influence on the end of year results.  Past that, I'm cool.

TCK, I already admit that I wouldnt like to play it every week. That would require alot of free time and would be very boring after a while. I am all for cutting down but I think you guys have cut down a bit too much. It leaves a long gap now between the AO and IW in March. Well see what the feedback is like but im personally hoping to cover all Andy events and also more of the 500 series events.

The best 18/15 or however many idea is a good one and one im looking into. If we can find a way that people cna play more regularly and not have an unfair advantage on the people that want to cut down then thats got to be the best way. You are quite welcom to pick and choose the tournaments you wish to play in.
