Read this following article in today's metro. What do people think of disabled athletes competing in regular events?

I'm also a fan of Richard Whitehead Smile

I admire Pistorius, but there's no way he should be in the regular Olympics. Apart from anything else (like the blades returning energy), not having calf muscles means he won't get the build-up of lactic acid there that inhibits performance.

I think I agree. But I think its fantastic he and others are at the same level of fitness of regular athletes. But if they merged all into it would be a mess, because when do you draw the line? Richard Whitehead ran the london marathon in just over three hours, if I remember rightly, thats incredible! Thats when I started taking an interest in his career.

I want to inspire the disable athletes as they are neglected in our society. Disable person has the potentiality to show their performance. And I am very pleased that you share the articles about the athletics of disable person.

What an absolute f***ing disgrace the BBC build-up coverage to the women's 1500m final was.

There was a live 'debate'* about Caster Semenya's gender and whether she should be allowed to compete in women's races blah blah blah. At one point Paula Radcliffe even suggested that Semenya should take drugs to reduce her naturally occuring testosterone levels. Bunch of idiots can't deal with a woman not conforming to their idiotic ideas of femininity. Felt like I'd got in a TARDIS and landed in tennis circa January 1999.

The BBC should issue an immediate apology and hang their heads in shame. The producer who allowed that to unfold should be made to answer for it.

After all that it was really good to see Semenya get the bronze. Pity Laura Muir got her tactics a bit wrong in the final.

*insecure b*tches b*tching might be more accurate.

^ Jesus - I just looked this up.  I believe she's been 'endorsed' as a woman, but not one hundred per cent - whatever that means.  Can you actually imagine how hurtful all this must be for her.  She was born the way she was born and is who she is.  For people to suggest she needs to change is abhorrent.

Unlucky Mo Farah in the 5000 metres.   The Ethopian athletes ran a smart race.
