Lovenkrands mate, nice wee touch he showed by not celebrating.
I knew my money was gone when rangers got their first goal. Newcastle had nothing in the final third. So many wasted balls. Anyway, next week the real stuff starts

Thought Naismith's goal was a good 'un too, perfect slide rule ball from wee Stevie Davis.

Pretty interesting match for the Community Shield... the Hernandez goal was a bit of a joke but I hope he lives up to his hype
This thread may as well be called SPL Talk.

Not too much hype with Hernandez really, signed for peanuts in comparison with that dud Berbatov. A very shrewd signing by Fergie actually.

Why on Earth would you hope a new United signing succeeds Julia? I hope he's worse than Forlan was for them.

This so clearly has something to do with Milner.

Oh definitely, but let's face it, Aston Villa are getting a great price for Milner.

Probably more to do with how much of that money he's being allowed to spend on new players. He had been told that he could buy if he sold, and not being allowed to spend all, or a large amount, of the money for Milner could be the reason he's walked.

Anyone heard about the lastest 7 million pound United signing, Bebe? 5 weeks ago he was at a Portugese 3rd division club, then signed for Vitória de Guimarães in the top division for Peanuts and and 2 years ago played for Portugal at the Homeless World Cup. Now he signs for Man United for 7 million pounds.
Anyway typically average England performance this morning until the 2 goals in the 2nd half. However, I feel immense pride and joy in being able to say, aside from Chelsea who were equal, there were more Arsenal players than players from any other club who took the field for England. Been waiting a long time and taken a lot of crap from the media and fans of other clubs before I could say that and long may it continue. Wenger worked hard to create a top class youth academy and has picked up a lot of 7, 8 year old kids etc. The first proper group of them are now starting to come through at 17, 18, 19. Best thing is they are all English. There may be a lot of foreign internationals in the first team, but the players the club are producing are all home grown. As is usually the case, only a minority of them will actually make it but they've given me a much needed reason to look forward to the coming season.
Wilshere is going to feature this season and I think Gibbs may well take the left back spot from Clichy this season. Very unlucky to break his foot last season when he got a run in the side with Clichy out. He would most likely have been in the World Cup squad had he remained fit. There's also Frimpong (born in Ghana but has played for England at various youth levels) who has played throughout pre-season and seems likely to start at Anfield in the weekend due to there simply not being anyone else fit in central midfield. Also Lansbury behind those 3 who is very highly rated although probably won't feature outside of the cup games this season. Jay Emmanuel Thoms is another one Wenger rates highly and he's built like an absolute monster although he doesn't really have a decided position yet and has played everywhere. Should get cup games this season. Couple of others like central defender Kyle Bartley who has gone on loan and Tom Cruise (not the actor!) who played for the England u19s the other week.
Looking forward to seeing some of these local lads getting their chance ansd hopefully 1 or 2 of them making it as first team players. If only we had a goalkeeper.

Looking forward to the first Wellington Phoenix game tonight against Gold Coast. My first full season as a match-going fan having been around for the last 6 or 7 games of last season. Weather is a bit crap but should still be a good one.
Couple of NZ World Cup players in the Gold Coast side too which should add to a bit of atmosphere, notably Shane Smeltz who scored the goal against Italy. He was at the Pheonix but transferred to Gold Coast for last season and has been top scorer by a mile for the last 2 seasons. He got a big money transfer to some club in China after the World Cup but turned up there and decided it would be impossible for his family to settle and returned to Gold Coast within 5 days. Apparently all the official paper work hadn't been fully processed by FIFA and whoever else yet so he was able to return to Gold Coast having not officially transferred!
Planning to go to every home game and would like to get a season ticket as that would work out about $21 a game instead of $30 when buying the tickets each time. But don't really want to pay out almost $300 in 1 go when I can't guarantee I'll definitely always be able to go. Be forking out $420 over the season paying for each game individually though, assuming I go to every game....

Good day for me in Fantasy Football. Clean sheets for Hart and Hangeland, and goals for Malouda and Milner. Pity I took swapped out Bent on Thursday, he was supposed to be injured!
Anyway good night at the Phoenix on Friday although disappointing result in the end. Shane Smeltz got booed at every touch having been a former Phoenix player, although I didn't really expect it as one of the NZ World Cup heroes. Early goal for Paul Ifill put the Phoenix in front. Smeltz equalised and the Phoenix went 2-1 up pretty much straight after. Early 2nd half goal made it 3-1 until who else but Smeltz pulled 1 back to make an interesting last 15 minutes. And Gold Coast equalised with 3 minutes remaining for an entertaining 3-3. Both sides should be well up there this season, although like last season are both probably not quite as strong as Sydney and Melbourne.
