Maybe. I wouldn't have thought they'd care about that. Even the BBC say they're only doing it because it could affect future coefficients. My problem is that that's not true! I dunno, hopefully it'll happen tonight!

That's actually changed what I want to happen tonight - now I don't want Romania to qualify, but i'm not sure who I do want to qualify.

I think Holland will let Romania win, and they should. Otherwise they'd meet Italia or France in the semis.

Czechs vs Turkey was the most exciting match of the championship so far for me. So so so sad it's over for the Czechs, though happy Turkey's goalie got a red card.

If Sweden draw or win tomorrow against Russia, they're through, otherwise it's Russia.

Nope.

Rules are clear, without talking about the decision to award a penalty, a straight red can be shown if the last man denies a clear goalscoring opportunity. He was the last man.

Ok then, I'll bring the penalty decision into it. It was given for denying a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity.

My main point on the card, was that he was the last man. If the penalty decision was correct, it could ONLY be correct for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Violent conduct, or aggressive nature etc did not come into it. Hence, it follows, that if he was the last man, it's a red card.

bear in mind, I'm not a football referee, so I'm basing it on my knowledge of the game in general, so some terms may be slightly wrong Smile

Ah right I see. Well in that case we disagree, I think he denied him a goalscoring opportunity.

EDIT:
Red Card was for:

Denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick (known as a professional foul)

Therefore, I conclude , that as he was the last man, and behind the striker, it was an obvious goalscoring opportunity, therefore punishable by a red card.
