ATP/WTA Tour - The Other Players

Quote

I was also reminded of the Sampras era, which was the time when I turned away from tennis and Wimbledon in particular.
A nearly 36-year-old can win a GS after a decent amount of rest and preparation whereas the rest of the field is playing tournament after tournament. Moreover, Fed's style is not that physically exhausting as e. g. Andy's or Nadal's or Djokovic's. And another aspect seems to be that too many of Fed's opponents did not really show up (apart from Berdych). Instead they watched the "old man" playing in awe.

I switched off at the end of the second set because it was obvious Cilic was never going to come back.  Felt really sorry for him too and I'm so glad I was spared the sight of Fed weeping!

He was overwhelmed by the occasion deb, and he had a shocking blister that must have impaired his movement. Awful final TBH Frown

. Unfortunately he shares the honours with that poisonous bitch Hingis. Surely he knows how dangerous she is, and I hope this is just a one-off partnership.

Why?  It was genuine and moving.

So sorry for Marin, today.   Hard to feel that raw in front of so many people.  Shows how genuine he is, though.   Not the final he, or any of us hoped for, am sure.

This is really funny.  I'm a huge fan of Kim Clijsters.

He was no doubt reminded of his early slam winning years when, like these two weeks, he has faced little opposition.

It just shows how important it is to have the big four fully fit. Fed won this match far to easily cannot understand why he thought it was important to win. The real competition were all injured apart from Nadal.

He had no real competition so I think this win was no real achievement  an easy win for him.

The injuries rather wrecked the men's competition.

All those dodgy early withdrawals, then the last two winners go out on the same day crocked.

Then Cillc can't even compwte in the final. Not Fed's fault of course and he has well earned grass GOAT status. But this was a sad tournament for mens singles - especially when you consider what is normally needed to win it
