I think this is the most telling part of his excuse - " ... but I just cannot compete at this level with Novak. At my age it would've been a risk." So for the first time I can remember Fed has actually admitted that he really is getting on bit - the same Fed who boasted not so very long ago about how fit he was for his age. Time to retire Feddy boy!
I do think though that the article is a little scathing because, having seen Andy hobbling round the court last year at RG because of back spasms, I can understand why Fed didn't want to play, especially against Novak, although I agree it could be argued that it would have been better to have played and displayed an obvious problem than not to have played at all, but I guess Fed's ego just couldn't handle that plus losing the match as well.
