ATP/WTA Tour - The Other Players

Thanks, but I'll pass on your invitation to forget anything that's a bit inconvenient for Fed worshippers.

Here is a more developed set of comments from our own Nigel

Lol.  Are you calling me a Fed worshipper?  I hope not.

Thanks but I've already read that article and it doesn't convince me of anything.  I judge him on how he is now and he's never offended me.

I give up.  I'm just trying to be reasonable and fair but I see I'm wasting my time.

I don't get all the hate either.  I think you're being very reasonable!

It would be reasonable and fair to say Fed does not offend you but you can see why his comments might offend others.    To say you are wasting your time implies that you think that it is wrong to dislike Fed.

What is the cut-off point then? How many weeks, months, years do you go back before you disregard what he says or does?

look I think we all agree Federer is brilliant player. What he is not is the Mr Perfect that the fawning media want us to believe. A hero without flaws is a work of fiction.

You can have your view as much as anyone.

But you don't have a monopoly on what is 'reasonable and fair'.

I'm sure you think many are too harsh on Fed - fair enough. But its equally fair for people to make a judgment on him based on evidence over many years

I always take a step back when people start his or her statements with 'Look'.  Sort of implies see things from my way or the highway!

It's fine to dislike a player, but to me it seems unnecessary that every time Federer is mentioned there has to be comments about how much people dislike him and how arrogant he is. Whenever Federer is successful there always seems to be somebody saying that he is smug as well as other things.

And anybody who respects the achievements or mentions the records of Roger seems to be accused of 'fawning' over Roger, whether it is another forum member or the media that is accused.

This doesn't exclusively happen with Federer. The same types of comments, albeit with different insults, are made about other players.

I agree, Matthew.  Nobody should  be made to feel ashamed just because they appreciate the tennis and the success that one person has had.  He could be Joe Bloggs, and I'd still be taking my hat off to him.

As for the focus on what Roger has or hasn't said right?  Just people looking for excuses to have a go.

As has been pointed out already - nobody is perfect - and Fed also falls into that category.  I certainly don't think he's perfect in any way, and I'd clearly be rooting for Andy every step of the way when he plays him.  Outwith that.  Fed doesn't offend me.  There are players who do, due to their antics.  But that's their thing to deal with.

Shame that Fed is vilified - just because he's successful.  Says a lot more about those who can't take it, than those who appreciate it.

No, I mean even today I described Federer as the grass court GOAT and others who don't love him have said he is a brilliant player. There is little argument on that.

In fact there was very, very little similar criticism of other big four members until 2014/15. Rafa still gets hardly any, and neither did Nole get much before 'netgate' and his AO 2015 final antics (in sharp contrast to some other tennis sites where he had long been described as a faker).

Federer has got much more criticism because, well, he deserves it. At least to a point.

What point?  What has he actually done that offends you?  I'm at a loss, here.  Help me out?
