ATP/WTA Tour - The Other Players

Quote

So Fett was up 5-1 on Woz in the third set and couldn't hang on. Once Woz managed to break her and get to 2-5 it was all over. Bit of a shame, Fett played very gutsy tennis.
And Tsonga just produced his best tennis of the match to break back after being down 2-5 in the fifth against Shapovalov, and went on to win! Tough for Shap but experience told down the stretch.

Yes it was tough for Shap, but after he's read our posts, he'll be ok - I should think!

Bencic in complete collapse against Thai girl Kumkhum! Lost the first set 6-1 and just fought off two match points at 3-5. One more match point left for Kumkhum. And Bencic just saved it. Deuce.

And Kumkhum has done it! First time she's got to the third round of a slam. And came through qualifying to get there too. Won it fair and square.

Think a lot was expected of Bencic at this slam based on her form coming into it. But I think people forgot that she had surgery and a long injury lay off.

Very good point, especially when she beat Venus right off the bat . But honestly, Kumkhum played very well and intelligently. Hope she gets a bit further into the tournament.

Sorry about Shapo but I had a feeling that Tsonga's experience would see him through if the match went the distance.  His still very young though so has plenty of time to gain more experience of his own, so ATS really shouldn't be too downhearted.

Well that at least is good news!  cmon yeah

Yes I think despite the loss which will be tough for him, Shapovalov can feel he's acquitted himself well and started 2018 impressively.

Hurray for Jamie and Bruno!

 C'mon Jamie

Andy tweeted his take on the tournament so far a few hours ago -

"Having watched some of the @AustralianOpen on the tv the court speed looks great.. Rewards and allows for attacking tennis... A lot more variety in the points getting played... Much more fun to watch."
