I return to my first contention that it is the mental side that determines success not the physical. Andy has that and I suggest that whatever others say he will want to play again competitively. The hard bit with comebacks is that some of us find it hard to lower expectations. Again I think that Andy is one of those. The next six months will be interesting.
I have no doubt that he wants to come back and play competitively otherwise he wouldn't be doing all this gym work, but wanting and doing, as you've said, are two different things, and so far the doing hasn't materialised again.
As for expectations, it would be interesting to see what might have happened had he not picked this pelvic injury up, had his two week training block in Miami (something he always used to rely heavily on - maybe too heavily in recent years?), and competed in Australia. He might have done well in the ATP Cup, particularly as he's said often enough that he likes being part of a team, but a Slam would have presented a much bigger challenge, so what would his expectations have been there, bearing in mind that he could have faced anyone in R1 from Nadal downwards? He said last year that he was happy just to be back playing tennis, but it was obvious, to me anyway, that being in it to win it was what really mattered when it came to tournaments, which he finally did in Antwerp - I'm leaving aside his success at Queens because playing doubles on a regular basis isn't on his agenda.
I agree the next six months will be interesting ... one way or the other.

The Kyrgios vs Khachanov match sounds like it was a real nail-biter with all but the first set going to tiebreaks plus Khachanov coming back from two sets down to force a decider which Nick managed to take 10-8 in the TB. Apparently it was the longest match Nick has played - and he felt it afterwards!
It sounds very exciting, I wish I'd seen it!
Kyrgios is having a good AO - do you think he wants to go as far as he can because of the money he's giving to the bushfire relief, and so therefore he wants to serve lots of aces?
Kyrgios meets Rafa in R4. I think Kyguos might well win because Rafa must be so tired, but who knows - we have to wait and see.
I think Kyrgios has natural talent, he really should win more, but he's easily frustrated and so his talent isn't always on show. I think Nick could win a grandslam this year - the only player in his way really, is Djokovic.
But sorry this post should really be on Nick's thread.

Another Fognini five set fightback?
He loses first two sets but wins third and is now 2-0 up in the fourth. Not easy for him against Tennys Sandgren.
Well worth a watch this one. I have test cricket on the tv and that match on the laptop. The link worked for me only by trimming off the http://
Thanks for that Tonedial!

Ooops! I got the score wrong. It is now 2-2 with no breaks. I have no sound so I got it wrong. Fognini playing with his nonchalant style. Never looks like he cares. He is running about quite a lot as his opponent is seeing to that. I think the American needs to win this in four otherwise Fognini will turn on another magic escape. Such good skill but not enough at present.

Well done Sandgren, I'm happy for you
Actually I'm not all that keen on Sandgren, but I'm pleased he won all the same

Well you would be given that you picked him to win in RTR!
I went for Fognini, but c'est la vie.

Goodness, Medvedev falling off a cliff at the moment,
but Stan is "in the zone" as they say.

So out goes Med, Tsit, Sinner, Shap, Hurcatz and all, And still in are the "old "geezers. Together with Pretty Boy, Darling Dom and, at the moment, Naughty Nick. Not sure he can do it at the mo. Needs that serve.

A nice article. Kontavit is being coached by Nigel Sears, Kim's dad. Lots of phone chats going on.

I didn't see the match but according to the ATP website Stan said he'd played his best tennis since coming back from knee surgery.

I'm sure that tells us something, i.e. not only are players playing for longer than they used to but they're remarkably fit as well despite having had a few injuries along the way.

Aileen: Fed had back problems in his match v Tennys Trump, but miraculously came through a zillion match points in the 4th and seemed to loosen up in the 5th. Was very pleased, don't usually cheer for him these days, either!
