It doesn't matter what sort of spin is on the ball, as long as you get a decent amount of loft on it, your slice will stay effective.
Oh....whenever I even try slicing a ball, it always hits the net. Actually, it looks so weak that it rolls to the net.
So when is the best time to attempt a slice?

When the opponent is dominating the point and you're in a defensive position. Also use to to kind of drag yourself into the net, because as you do that, you are dominating the point and so you will probably win it.

So when you are in a defensive position, you tend to give some time for yourself to come back into position when you slice a ball?

Exactly. Good work, student.

Slice is also useful if the ball is tricky to handle, ie if it's very low or your footwork isn't properly in the place.

This thread reminds me of how long it's been since I've picked up a racquet.

Anyone ever slid on a hard court before?
I used to be able to do it because I'm quite flexible, but since about 7 months ago I haven't done it and my movement has regressed, then I did it last Monday and it felt really weird.

I don't like to, far too risky with the knees.

Takes a lot out the ankles too. I stopped doing it because I did not want to injure myself.

Tomorrow, my daughters play in the final of the club ladies' singles. One of them will be club champ for the first time. Exciting. Their dad's in the men's dubs final, too. I'm wishing I wasn't, though, cos they've scheduled the order of play so our matches clash and I won't be able to watch them.
