I don't understand why Andy feels he needs extra practice to beat Goffin and f****** Darcis. Don't risk the ban Andy. Seriously, don't.
It isn't the extra practice he wants Connor, just more time to get used to the change of surface from hard to clay - if in fact clay it is - otherwise his back could give him problems, something that happens to a lot of players if the change in surface is too sudden,
I'll be very surprised if he gets banned, but he'll certainly get fined a substantial sum if he misses the WTF, not that he can't afford it. However, if they do threaten to give him a ban (how long for I don't know), then he really has no option other than to play.

what an interesting discussion which I missed yesterday, all those stats and opinions ,real food for thought I heard about the possibility of a fine or even ban late last night Obviously the ATP will take
a dim view if Murray pulls out of O2 other than on health grounds
Andy should bear in mind the importance of appearing on the ATP tennis circuit and either bow out
of DC gracefully or try and do both

Andy bow out of D.C. at this stage, after all the effort he has put in - you have to be joking!

I honestly think there is no way that Andy could possibly be so calculating as to contemplate dropping out of the DC after working so hard to get to the final. You only have to look at his face and effort to see how much it means to him.

If Andy is forced to play WTF, he can treat it as a glorified practice session and go for his shots and fine tune his game. This way he saves energy and gets a chance to improve his attacking game.

I think benniebone is on a wind-up on this entire subject now.

That sounds sensible to me Philip. In fat he might even win it playing that way! lol
PS - I really can't see him skipping it without a very good reason, and I'm sure that Leon wouldn't want him to do that either. Also it would create an undesirable precedent if he was allowed to miss it because of the DC, even if he does incur a hefty fine.

The last time the two teams met was back on the 6th - 8th of April 2012 at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow. It was a Europe/Africa Group 1 second round tie. Belgium won 4-1. Darcis beat Josh Goodall 3-1. Olivier Rocus beat Evans 3-1. Fleming and Hutchins beat Bemelmans and Goffin 3-1. Goffin beat Goodall 3-0 and Bemelmans beat Evans 2-0.
I was there- the Belgian fans were good fun.

Sorry but he's incredibly stupid for even suggesting he'd skip it. Now if he does skip due to 'injury' everyone will know he's not really injured. He's shot himself in the foot and should have not mentioned his intentions at all.
I don't buy the excuse he needs so much rest time. Djokovic, Berdych and Nadal didn't complain when they had to do the same.
Quit the whining Andy and get on with it.

The WTF's is slower than clay.

ProdigyEng,
I'm quite surprised you aren't at least managing a top tier tennis player since you seem to know so much more than anyone who's actually part of the Murray team.

I've read Belgium have decided to play the tie in Ghent, but isn't mentioned on the Davis Cup website (though they do have up to two weeks to decide).

I agree with the first paragraph up to a point because he seems to have got himself caught between a rock and a hard place, particularly by speaking out before the surface has been officially announced, the bottom line being that the Belgians could still opt for hard-court, the clay being largely due to rumours just because the Belgians have played 4 out of their last 6 home ties on that surface.
As for the rest, they've never suffered from a serious back problem which required invasive surgery, and one which could well have ended his career, so is it a wonder he has concerns about a sudden change of surface? The WTF court may be slower than clay but at least players don't have to slip and slide around on it to chase down balls.

I feel calling Andy stupid is a case of pot calling kettle black! Also the others you quoted did not have to carry the whole team. Djokovic had players in the team seeded way above ours, Berdych the same, and the Spanish had so many higher seeds. So how dare you tell Andy to stop whining when he has carried the team to the Finals.

As far as I can see it seems that that is yet another unsubstantiated rumour. I know nothing about the city, but I suppose it could have both indoor clay and hard courts. According to the Davis Cup rules though any arena chosen for the final has to accommodate at least a minimum number of people (13,000 I think).
