Djokovic deported from Australia

Rublev tells us about having covid when he entered Australia

He plays Cilic today at the AO.
Very interesting, but while it does sound rather strange that Rublev was allowed to enter the country, particularly in view of the Australian government's health department rules (which are stated in the article), I think the difference between this and what happened with Djokovic was simply the fact that he was unvaccinated and so therefore in the view of the court was liable to fuel anti-vax sentiments.  There was also the original reason for cancelling his visa which was because that he had possibly told untruths in order to obtain it.

Basically the whole thing is something of a fiasco which doesn't put all those involved in the Djokovic saga in a very good light, something which Martina Navratilova claims in this article - https://www.tennisworldusa.org/tennis/news/Editors_Thoughts/107883/navratilova-is-right-on-djokovic-s-issue-they-all-came-out-very-badly/

PS - Rublev was defeated in four sets by Cilic.

^ Me too particularly as it was only his second top 10 win since 2018.

So do I because it was in Cavtat, where I went on holiday for two weeks back in 1972.

As for Djokovic, he's been seen enjoying himself on the ski slopes in Montenegro, although what he does next is anyone's guess.

^ I remember you said you'd been to Cavtat on another thread a while ago.

It looks like Djokovic might be allowed to play at the French Open after all since according to France’s new rules vaccine passports can also be used by people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past six months, and as he returned a positive PCR in December, he will be able to travel to the country unvaccinated until June.  Things could change before then though.

Meanwhile he's welcome to play in Rotterdam which starts on 7 February -

Cilic lost in the next round. Medvedev is in the quarter finals now and might lose there!

Djokovic is willing to sacrifice trophies if he's forced to have a covid jab.

Fair enough.  That's his choice and although i dislike him, I admire him for sticking  to his principles.

If only he’d made that statement before the Australian
Open he could have saved himself all that hassle and as you say many people would have admired him for at least sticking to his principles.  As many do now.
