Djokovic deported from Australia

I actually don’t believe he tested positive in December. I mean, how convenient. Send him home.

Djokovic's lawyers say he tested positive for covid on the 16th December.  Why didn't they say that before now.
Why didn't Djokovic say so too and put an end to all the speculation?   True, he did pull out of the ATP Cup for unspecified reasons, which would make sense if he was actually unwell, but even so you do have to wonder.  That though doesn't alter the fact that he was given an exemption by TA and the State of Victoria which Morrison seems determined to overrule.

I suspect that he did not have the required time at each side of Christmas to isolate before travelling and after arrival to play the ATP Cup. His test was mid December. Otherwise he was more concerned with himself than playing for his country as was Nadal.
Personally I dislike Novak D immensely for so many reasons so IF he does not play he will not be missed by me.

I suppose we can say that we only lost to the team that won?

I hope that Dan has a good Sydney tournament to re-enforce his good early form

Now Andy has weighed in on the matter -

"Former world number one Andy Murray has sent support to Novak Djokovic amid his current visa saga in Melbourne. Since arriving from Dubai on Wednesday, Djokovic has been held in an immigration detention hotel, which Murray believes is a 'really bad' look for tennis."

It’s a bit of a cryptic statement - while he says he hopes Djokovic is ok, in saying that it looks bad for all involved he isn’t exactly backing ND’s overall stance.

Neither is he denouncing it outright.

Apparently Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic has been deported with the same visa problems as Djokovic.

Many players would struggle to pay exorbitant legal fees.

It seems that Tennis Australia has been making promises it hasn’t been in a  position to keep.

There are also questions as to why Djokovic attended an event the day after testing positive.

Ultimately, I suspect he isn’t impressed by Djokovic but doesn’t want to get embroiled in it. But really, why does it matter what one or two people think?

He should have been self-isolating.

I wouldn't have thought Andy would have been impressed by Djokovic.  Lots of players have said what they think - such as Rafa, Kyrios and others.  It doesn't matter what anyone thinks really.
