Two-times major winner Simona Halep of Romania has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said on Friday.

Simona Halep, a 31-year-old Romanian tennis player, has been provisionally suspended under Article 7.12.1 of the 2022 Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP),” the body said in a statement. (Reporting by Dhruv Munjal in Bengaluru; Editing by Frank Jack Daniel)

I rather like Simona and find this a bit hard to believe, but the fact that her sample was split into two, and when specimen B was analysed at her request it came up with the same result as specimen A, does suggest that something wasn't quite right.  I wish her well in her fight against the ban but can't help thinking that this is going to be a tricky one to get out of.

For info - "Roxadustat has been linked to doping in the past, with the United States Anti-Doping Agency retesting samples in 2016 after saying it had been tipped off about the anaemia drug's use by athletes.  The banned substance increases the production of red blood cells, helping endurance, and is in the same category of banned substances as EPO."

My belief, most athletes have tried PEDS at some stage in their career. Some when they were young arranged by their team.  Many will leave it at that and and try to doo without it but some are great only because they live on it and abuse it severely. Occasionally they will throw someone to the wolves to make it look as if they are dealing with it but most of the authorities know about it and even sanction it, some at the highest level, especially in a sport like tennis are protected
