French Open 2014 - The Other Players

Quote

If Nadal is considered the favourite for Wimbledon it will surely prove that the person who works out these things is a bit silly. Nadal won RG in 2012 and lost in the second round at Wimbledon to Rosol. Nadal won RG last year and lost in the first round at Wimbledon to Darcis. Nadal says himself that the bounce on the grass doesn't suit him now, because of his knees.
Aw - shame ... wink

Anyway doesn't everyone know that Federer has said he intends to win Wimbledon this year because he can dictate now more than before who wins and loses matches? Whistle

Caroline I'm only repeating what Nadal said himself last year when he lost to Darcis. He was adamant that he struggles on the grass because of his knees. I'm not even getting in to whether or not he does have knee problems Smile.
Ah that's different. He would have knee problems. He lost.

I have to confess that I enjoyed the women's final yesterday far more that the slugfest today.

The final was my first game of the FO that I have been able to watch. It was disappointing.

Out of interest American TV showed the best ten points of the championship and top was a point from Nadal/Murray which although Nadal won showed a lot of brilliant play by AM. McEnroe introduced them so may have been his choices? I do not think that Novak had an inclusion which makes sense to me if not others. A Halep/Sharapova point was second or third. Halep looked a good player.

Happy for Rafa but feel for Novak. I think one day he'll win the French Open, but I'm not sure whether he'll be able to beat Rafa to do it - it's just such a difficult task, almost impossible, especially as he most likely will play him in a final when Rafa's at his strongest. Hope he gets it one day though.

Rafa's now won at least one slam a year for the last 10 years - so impressive. I hope he continues to win slams (not at Andy's expense though) so that he can overtake Fed's slam total. 17 is within his reach now.

Happy for Rafa and it was a great final that got you involved, both players gave it all, and I'd have been happy to see Nole win it too.

15 years ago, they were saying how Sampras' Slam record will remain forever as the most Slam wins, we now have two players in the same era to have equalled or surpassed his total, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Quite amazing.

I could be wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if RollyG becomes to Djoko what Wimbledon was to Lendl. He obsessed over, missed the clay, did all he could but never won . It always seemed like he tried to hard. Djokovic is in danger of doing the same I feel. But who knows - that's what makes sport so much fun.

Westie I think two things need to happen for Djokovic to win RG. Firstly, Nadal needs to retire or be unable to play one year. I don't see anyone else winning RG to be honest, not while the defending champion has such a win/loss record in the tournament.

The other thing is entirely down to Djokovic. I just think he wants it far too much. I honestly think it's not a lot to do with the career grand slam. I get the feeling it's more to do with wanting something Nadal has got. Personally I think Djokovic needs to work out exactly why he wants to win it that badly (it's not as if it's a home major) and then he needs to stop putting himself under a load of pressure.

Speaking personally, I'd love Andy to win the AO before Djokovic wins RG. I'd hate the AO to become the one Andy really could win that escapes him.
