Milos pulled out of the Kooyong Classic with stomach problems.  Hope he gets better soon.

Meanwhile..
Nishikori def. Tsonga 1-6 6-4 6-1
Tomic def. Monfils 6-4 4-6 7-6
Birdy def. Roddick 4-6 7-6 6-3

Monfils defeated Roddick, I saw the match. Birdych went out earlier, didn't he?

poster_oops...You are right, my bad..  I got the names around the wrong way. Was the Monfils/Roddick match any good?

scot: Monfils wasn't nearly as good as against Rafa, looked a bit slow at times and not taking the ball on nearly as early, but he still won!  Roddick was poor. All he did was charge the net and then watch the ball whistling past. Or he made an awful hash of any volley he had the luck to get his racquet on! What's with this tactic? If it's Stephanki's influence, he needs shooting!

I watched all of Milos' matches in Chennai and I have to say he's greatly improved in his return game and overall groundstrokes. Not just a big server anymore. I'll be cheering him on next week for sure. Shame he's in Djoko's half.

I agree with you. I think many people underestimate him and think he's nothing but a ServeBot.  But it's all good RositaK... the more challenged he is.. the more challenging he will become.. Smile

Congratulations to Milos for defending his title in San Jose against Denis Istomin, and thereby winning his second ATP title this year.  I did notice an improvement in his ground-strokes so he wasn't solely dependent on his serve (one of which was clocked at 150 mph), and in fact he only served 7 aces in the entire match.  I agree that he's not the most exiciting player around, but he's done very well coming back like this after such a long lay-off.  Memphis up next week, where there's a stronger field, so we'll see how he does there.

So Raonic lost. :p

Seriously, this feels like a bad loss. Melzer is 30 year old and ranks 38.

Yes I watched the 2nd set.  Roanic had match point at 5-4 and was 40-30 on Melzer's serve but dumped return into the net.  You could see he was kicking himself.  Don't know why you think this is a such bad loss though.  OK so Raonic wasn't quite at his best, but Melzer's a seasoned old fox.

Not a terrible loss but just a bad loss. I don't think it will matter all that much in the end but bad in the sense that Raonic can't afford to have these sort of losses to players like Melzer at this stage in his career. Let's see how he reacts in his next tournament.

I really think Melzer is playing some of his best tennis in the last 2/3 years or so.

I saw Meltzer in the doubles at the WTF. He is a fine player and plays the kind of tennis that is kind to his body. After all he is only Fed's age.
Am glad he won, much prefer his game to R's. Don't like these too tall, massive servers.
