Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios is an Australian player and he's 23 years old and he was born on the 27th April 1995 (which is actually last week).  He plays right-handed with a 2 handed back hand.
He's currently ranked #35 (I thought he was ranked higher than that).
He has 4 ATP titles.  He hasn't yet won a grand slam title but he's done quite well in these tournaments.
He has been accused of tanking, verbal abuse and unsportsmanlike conduct.  I hope he'll be all right in 2019 and can put his mind to his tennis as he's a talented player but somewhat under rated
Kyrgios is a Greek Orthodox Christian and he always wears a gold necklace around his neck with a cross on the necklace.
In his private life he likes to play basketball.

I already didn't know a lot of that about Kyrgios!

I still can't make my mind up. I think I like off court Nick more than on court Nick!

I might add a similar biog to my threads on Tsitsipas, Shapovalov and Medvedev.

I agree - he seems a genuinely nice guy off-court, and Andy seems to get on very well with him, so he must be OK!   I think Andy tried to help him too with his tennis problems at one point.

Nick does have a lot of natural talent but it really puts me off watching him when he suddenly decides he doesn't want to play anymore, or starts fooling around, because if there's one thing that really bugs me is seeing good talent being wasted.

Nick is still scheduled to play in Brisbane.  He suffered a spider bite over the holiday and was in Hospital in Canberra but possibly only for a day.
I hope Nick will now go forward to an injury free 2019.

I hope so too because his 2018 season was cut short by injury.  I've just been reading about the spider bite but I know they do have some very nasty spiders in Oz so I suppose the drip could have been antibiotics or maybe some sort of antidote to the spider's venom.  From what I've read it sounds as though he might have been in hospital for more than just a day.  Definitely not a very nice Christmas to have.

I suppose Nick must have trod on the spider?  Wasn't he wearing shoes?

If he was wearing shoes he wouldn't have got bitten, assuming that he trod on it, but spiders can be found in all sorts of places, so maybe if he was sitting in the garden, or even indoors, and was wearing sandals then it could have bitten him somewhere else on his foot.   Perhaps it wasn't even a poisonous spider, but any insect bite can turn nasty if bacteria get into it, which is when antibiotics are needed.

He says he doesn't like having to be away from home so much and he gets homesick.  He didn't actually say he gets homesick but that's how it looks.  He has seen (is seeing) a psychologist to help him with his mental health.
It must be very difficult to have to be away for such a long time every year, I feel sorry for Nick.  He's a good player but he does have some difficulties on the tennis courts around the world.
He's scheduled to play Ryan Harrison in the 1st round at Brisbane, should be a win for you Nick Smile

Well he won't be far from home in Brisbane.  I do hope the psychologist can help him to overcome his mental health problems, although if he doesn't like being away from home a lot then tennis wasn't the best career to choose.

In theory he should beat Harrison given that their H2H is 3-0 Nick, but a lot depends on how they play on the day.

I don't know why he chose tennis.  I suppose at the time he mightn't have realised how much time he'd have to spend away from home.  I want Nick to continue to play tennis, but he surely has lots of money and so he could walk away from the sport any time he liked?
He should beat Harrison really, but you can never be sure of anything.
& it might be hot in Brisbane too?
