Nick Kyrgios

Nick and Thanasi are drawn to play R1 at the USO against each other which is rather bad luck.  However they'll play  the doubles together as in previous tournaments.

Into the 4th round now, but with an $11,000 fine -

I don't see the point in fining players such as Kyrgios, he isn't going to starve because of a fine of $11,000.  I shouldn't think he even checks his bank statements so he doesn't know for sure how much money he actually has, do something which would hurt him - such as banning him from the next 3 ATP tournaments.

I like Nick but he can be very irritating, stupid and frustrating to follow.

^ Completely agree because I've never seen the point of these fines either.  In fact Kyrgios's behaviour in that match was so disgusting that he should have been made to forfeit the match.

He should have been made to forfeit the match I agree.

Meantime he plays Medvedev in their 4th round match tomorrow.  Medvedev would lose his #1 ranking if Kyrgios won.  They've played each other 3 times and Kyrgios has won twice.

Kyrgios beat Medvedev in 4 sets yesterday, well done

Into the qf now where he'll play Karen Khachanov.

Rafa, Casper Ruud or Carlos Alcaraz will be #1 next week.

Kyrgios lost in the qf, Khachanov won.

Nick & Thanasi lost in the doubles too.

Only it isn't Nick who's seeking this but his lawyers.  If he wants to turn up in court and plead his case then I think he should be allowed to do so because doing anything else sounds like a cover-up.  On the other hand if he's found guilty, that would be the end of his tennis career.  Also we know that Nick has his demons to face ... but is he really that mentally impaired?  The DPP's decision could be interesting.

We know he has problems with being away from home for long stretches of time and how aggressive he can sometimes be when playing tennis.  However, I think he should attend the hearing in Canberra, if he stayed absent it wouldn't look good.  His behaviour on court and the fact that he suffers from homesickness is just part of who is.
I really don't think he has mental health issues.

(These days it's a very good thing that we have a few threads for separate players) ....

^ I'm glad you agree because if he was that mentally unwell I doubt he'd be able to play tennis at such a high level.

Unfortunately Nick had to pull out due to a left knee injury.  He pulled out of the doubles with Kokkinakis as well.

"When your body lets you down, it's not a good feeling. I know in this case it's probably overloading rather than not being fit enough. I think it's almost being too excited to get on the court and maybe training a little bit too much. So it's positive, but heart-breaking at the same time."

He does though hope to play Basel and Paris.

I think we can set this aside now as Kyrgios would wish.

^ I think so too.  The lady's behaviour was out of order, but even so ....

At least the money's been given to a good cause, and one that I'm sure Kyrgios approves of.

Day one of the season and Kyrgios was in trouble, but it does beg the question that if he was struggling with injuries, why play exhibition matches?
