He may appeal all he want, I don't think he can get a lot off it.

I do think he should of got a ban but not nine years because thats his career over in my eyes you must work really hard to get back on form from a nine year ban and i dont see it unfortunatly. I would of gave him a year to learn his lesson rather than nine years.

Isnt this his second offence though? A year off is nothing - if youre going to punish someone it has to be effective.

A year is too little, it is like nothing in my opinion, I think he wouldn't really have learnt his lesson! I think at least a few years.. I dunno..

Especially as it was a second offence. Of course 9 years is a weighty ban and perhaps he is being made an example of, but if you're taking drugs then you're cheating. It simply isn't right.
If he can prove his innocence, good for him, but the message has to go through that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and if this is the only way that it can be done, then so be it.

The thing about this case is that the fact he only has an 8 year ban and not a lifetime one means that the tribunal accepted his story that the drug was taken accidentally (apparently his wife's medical records were submitted and she was taking the treatment he claims at the time) so regardless of the previous occasion, which he was punnished for, in this instance he wasn't entirely at fault. An 8 year ban may be appropriate for a 16 yr old but in this case it might as well be a lifetime ban as it probably will be career ending. And when you look at it from this angle I do think they're being a bit harsh. I think maybe 3-4 years would suffice.

In that case, if he can prove it without any doubt then yes, the ban is too long.

I don't think he can prove it without any doubt, that's the point. There's nothing he can actually do to prove it. However, the sentence passed down by the tribunal suggests that they accept his story.

BBC Sport
He was in line for a life ban but because the positive result was "caused by an inadvertent administration of etilefrine", a lighter suspension was given.
"The tribunal rejected a defence of no fault or negligence, but accepted an alternative plea of no significant fault or negligence," said the ITF.
With this evidence I don't think he deresves a career ending punishment.

funny that he shoud be Argentinian. Just how many of their players have tested positive for drugs now? Apart from Chela and Coria, who have regained their game with a vengeance, it seems to be pretty much epidemic in that country.
perhaps they shoud have weekly dope tests. Soon sort out the cheaters.

i can't believe that girl gave the excuse that she was pregnant during the test, as she is 16
perhaps if she was to give a nonsense answer to cover herself she could use an excuse a little less revealing
