Roger Federer off-court

Though in this case it was the girl herself, not Federer's PR team, that publicised the full details of the story via her twitter.
I've a feeling Fed may not have been impressed with this.  He does do charity work in Africa through his Foundation, a small part of which also helps promote sport in general in Switzerland, but the only place you'll see it mentioned is on his official website.  Same goes for Andy and Djokovic, who has done a great deal to help under-privileged children in Serbia and for which he's received a number of humanitarian awards.  Nadal has a Foundation too but its never heard about, at least in the UK.

Child meets tennis star.    Thereafter the stories part company.

As Aileen and Katie said, it wasn't Federer who spread the story. It could just as easily been the other way round. There's nothing to stop an Andy fan doing likewise at some point.

I never said Federer spread the story.   I thought the way the story was written was somewhat nauseous.

It was a little, but she's over-excited teenage fan who's just come through a battle against cancer, so I think she can be forgiven for being OTT at times.

That's all true Aileen and I tried to read the article again having just skimmed it the first time but my reaction was the same - nausea.    I give in - I'm an old fuddy duddy and my original post says it all - I'm out of step again.   It reminds me of a favourite joke of my mother's.    A proud mother watching her son marching with his battalion through the town and she turns to her friend and says "Would you look at that - they're ALL out of step but oor Jock"

It's not only you that feels that.  It's a sweet story and I said as much further up this thread but there's a part of me that I'm not altogether proud of that always cringes at anything related to Fed, I'm afraid.  I tried to be nice about this but couldn't stop the 'ugh, sorry, still don't like him' reaction from coming through.

no The wee boy Elijah was also suffering from cancer and got to meet his idol, Andy, through the Make A Wish Foundation. Exactly the same as how the young lady met her idol, Fed.

I could post here tons of press articles which were done at the time, and it was also on Andy's official website.

He also got to do the coin toss at the 2012 Wimbledon Final, a HUGE honour for him and his family.

Maybe if you replaced the name "Roger" with "Andy" her exhuberant comments might be easier for you to digest.

I really hope Elijah is doing well.

Sorry Scot, it would probably make it worse!!!    I thought about that myself but it doesn't help.   I liked Elijah's story but not the other one.

It would be interesting to see what Elijah might have said had he tweeted or written about their meeting, and also the two 14 year old girls (also cancer sufferers) from the US who met Andy at Wimbledon 2/3 years ago.

Sorry,  but  as a fair tennis fan.

Regarding Roger and he didn't divulge this information to the media, It was theexcited teenager. about a month later.

Therefore, we got to know it.

If she writes nothing by facebook or twitter. Was this fact known by nobody. Because, the Federer foundation, team of Federer, and Roger nothing said. I think that Roger and his team are modesty.

Although I also respect Andy's charity.
was it made public in the first place?
Cancer is cancer and everyone has been touched by it in someway, through family, friends, And, things like this should be kept private, But winnings 76,000. one of his wealth. I would have liked it better if this was kept quiet.

A sport, business, Movie star, etc. Those successes. They are performing many charity activities.

It is also duty, and is the proof as a great human being?

I do not like making a charity an advertisement. However, they got it by the talent and efforts.

They can give poor people the amount of money like ODA of a country?respect.
