Stefanos Tsitsipas

How strange because I always thought Stefanos was quite even tempered, but I suppose stress, heat and frustration, and it was an extremely close match, can bring out the worst in anyone.  I'm glad though that his Mum didn't hesitate to give him a good talking to there and then, and I'm sure Dad had something to say as well, so maybe next time he'll think twice before he throws a hissy fit on court!

I said somewhere else, when he was younger perhaps he didn't feel the stress he feels now he’s a top player.   He’s maybe not as mature as we thought.  That said there are videos on you tube of loads of players smashing raquets.   Including Djokovic,Roger and of course our Andy.  Not so sure about Nadal.   Uncle Tony is scarier than any mum!

lol  Rafa once said that his uncle told him that if he ever thought about smashing his racquet, that he should remember all the poor kids who can't afford to buy them, so that's why nobody has ever seen him smash one.  I agree with you about Stefanos though, and after all he is still quite young, but having watched a brief replay of the incident I really don't know how he can say he didn't realise he'd hit his father because he was practically standing right in front of him!

^ Well young Shapovalov learnt his lesson the hard way when he accidentally hit an umpire in the eye with a ball.

Oh I remember that!  shocking

That was a really bad one and Denis was very lucky the umpire wasn't seriously hurt because that could have left him blind.  I remember that he was so mortified that he stayed in bed for three days until his Mum dragged him out of it and told him to get on with it!   The umpire too gave him a lot of support in getting over the incident, although he might not have been so amenable if the damage to his eye had been serious.

Yes it was really bad and it must have hurt the umpire so much, the poor man!
But yes I remember Denis stayed in bed for 3 days afterwards!  I do think Denis felt really bad about it and he never meant it to  happen.
I think Denis has remembered that incident and tries to be more aware of that sort of thing happening again.

I'm quite sure he has because there have been a few occasions when he's lifted his racquet as if he's about to throw it or smash it, then thought better of it!

As I am sure Stefanos will, he loves his family, he would never have achieved what he has today without their love \support , money and sacrifices, as a young Tennis player growing up in Greece  their was nothing from any where else.
He has such a high profile now, I suspect his press conference was just a down playing of the incident,  I do see him not only as an intelligent young player but also a caring  young  man , so i do believe he will learn by it
The test will come for him in the not to distant future, when I believe he needs to  decide whether he separates  coaching from family,it seemed to work for Nadal, not to do it , but..

Stefanos went down to Milos who seems to playing like days of old, Andy faced the same problem with Milos , but he was always a great returner and seemed to work Milos over on his own service games to wear him out
Stefanos is not there yet and does seem to struggle with big servers, aka NK in the APT cup,
Lessons to be learnt, for our young greek god

Agree Milos seems to have had a new lease of life, but I would hope that in time Stefanos will be able to handle big servers better.  I think we were a bit spoilt with Andy who had one of the best ROS on the Tour.

^ i agree but Andy was also canny in his own service games. Did  not try to out serve Milos just kept the ball in play and keep Milos running,  that semi final in the AO came to mlnd a long five setter, to the point Milos.,over  stretched  himself , to the point of injury
Stef has never faced him before, but definately needs to work on his return, and a way to beat these big servers

^ Yes I remember that match at the AO 2016.  It was quite a tournament for Andy as well - worrying about a pregnant Kim and then her father ending up in hospital.  Shame he had to play Djokovic in the final again, particularly as I was convinced that his mind was already on the plane home!

Yeah for some reason the AO has always been a tad unlucky for Andy, and the one that definately got away , but it is what it is
