I'm still in a state of mild disbelief because I honestly thought that Zverev had the third set in his pocket until that massive choke, but even then things got a tad nerve-racking. There's certainly truth in the saying that no match is ever over until the last ball has been played.

Estimated time for Andy's match today is 5 pm EST, 10 pm BST. It's 4th on Grandstand.
Also Andy's comments on the match from the ATP website -
“I don’t think either of us played particularly well when we were close to the finishing line, but [that was] maybe to be expected since we haven’t played any matches for such a long period. He didn’t serve so well at the end, which obviously helped me but I fought hard and it is a good effort to win that after not playing for a while.”

After it had finished I had one of those periods when I could do nothing! It was just not real that Andy with 30 matches in three years was so good. I took an hour to recover and go to bed. I suppose that will be an advantage for another late night tonight?
I think Andy has his best chance against the Canadian IF he can start well again. I think his comments regarding how they both played last night was spot-on. The bit he said about the silence when he threaded a ball past Sascha down the line was revealing of how much a showman he can be. I am interested that the German may be difficult to coach (Lendl stayed very little time) and that his second serve issue is now a mental block. I can understand that as performance can be totally frustrated by the mind faltering with belief in skills available. In his case I do wonder if he should adopt the repeat first serve for his second. He had over 50% success in first serves so statistics would tell you that the chance of two failing in a row is small. Why not go fast for both serves if the body allows? I am sure that all players have really fast and stock first serves to avoid burn out of the body so to me it seems totally possible. I could never serve slowly, when I played, all those years ago and it at times did become a big problem that reduced enjoyment considerably!

Waited a long time for his match to come on well worth the wait Andy at his fighting best I thought he played very well we must remember all the pain he has been through but his fighting spirit remains.
I have never seen Sascha play so poorly I have not watched much tennis for a while but was really surprised about his serving. The shot that Andy played to win was great. He still has great flair a wonderful shot to win.

I could not believe the doubles that Sascha had at the end. I felt sad for him, but happy for Andy to have another chance to come back. And Andy's last two points were great and just shows you that he never gives up, he tries to the very last ball.
Is this the thread that his match today will be on? I had problems finding it yesterday. Here's my little message for Andy.
Good luck Andy boy, perhaps today it will be easier for you to find a first serve and more aces. You have outsmarted Milos in the past, here's to doing it again today!! May the Magic be with you today.

Excellent first set from Jo against Vera Zvonareva, who is playing very well and consistently on her comeback trail. Jo had a couple of break points in what were otherwise very even games, then put the pressure on at 4-4, broke and served to take the set 6-4. Serve looking good and terrific backhand as always. She's got a new fancy coach, Thomas Hogstedt, whose long list of clients includes Li Na, Woz and Sharapova. Too bad she had to give up her previous coach Dimitri Zavalieff but I think he has a young family and didn't want to do all the travelling.
And Jo just got a second break of serve in the second set and will serve for the match at 5-2! Right now she looks pretty relentless.
And that's it! 6-4, 6-2. She looked very confident. On to the fourth round!

It is because I decided against opening threads for each match on this occasion. Also, to my shame, I didn't really expect Andy to get beyond Zverev. Anyway if you click on the link shown at the top of the page you'll get onto this thread.

So are we to assume that Laura Robson's new commentary role means she has given up her own tennis career? Laura had so much potential 8 years ago.

I believe her problem has been some besetting injuries that have cropped up again when she's tried to make a comeback. Very bad luck.

It is a shame. I remember she had a similar wrist surgery to Del Potro a couple of years ago.

Jamie and Neil Skupski just won their first set against Cacic and Lajovic, 6-3. And after a bit of a hiccup in the second set, when they got broken and just missed getting back to level pegging, they won the super tiebreak pretty convincingly, 10-5.
