Western & Southern Open

Bit bummed about Dan—the trouble with an opponent like Raonic is that unless he isn't feeling his serve on the day, it's very difficult to break and make headway in a set. Nice about Jo, very glad she did such a thorough job on Flipkens, good way to start. Unfortunately I missed it as was out playing tennis myself (extremely hot and humid and sweaty even with old ladies' doubles). But home now and hoping Andy can bring it against Sasha. I do feel his experience and craftiness could get him through, but he'd better be well hydrated!
I can't understand why anyone of any age would actually want to play in these conditions, so I admire you for that!

Probably just stupid but one of the courts we play on has some shade and is pretty good in the first half of the day. It's really the only exercise I'm getting so in that sense quite important!

I can understand that.  Unfortunately I had to give up on the sport over 40 years ago and never returned to it.

Serena's in a bit of a battle against Arantxa Rus—she scraped the first-set tiebreak but has just lost the second. Don't know how they can bear it really—it's 90 degrees (32 to you) and the humidity's pretty bad.

Just started watching Dan and David Goffin's doubles match against Koolhof and Mektic. Fairly even so far. Dan to serve at 1-2.

Oh come on ladies!!  Can't see Andy being on until after 9 at this rate.

Dan and David just lost the first set 5-7.

Unfortunately Serena seems to be unable to close this match out.  Needs to break her opponent's serve now, which she doesn't, so 5-5.

6-5 Rus.

Tiebreak now.  Serena looks absolutely knackered but she isn't giving up - and proves it by taking the breaker 7-0.
