^ ATL has just set up a thread called "Andy at the US Open"
I don't know if it's possible for Osaka to rescind her decision to withdraw - would she want to rescind her decision anyway? I don't think she'd want to do that.
Andy plays Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in R1, so not too bad really.
As for Osaka, she's announced that she will play her rescheduled SF match tomorrow -
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/aug/27/naomi-osaka-opts-to-compete-in-western-southern-open-semi-final-tennis
Personally I think she should forfeit the match because you don't just opt in and out of tournaments regardless of the reason.

Sorry I missed the last sentence of your post .....
Well yes you don't usually opt in and out of tournaments and yes it must have caused the organisers some headaches, but she's a popular player and so I think the organisers would have wanted to make every effort to accommodate her - and it's a strange tournament, this year, which needs people to follow. So I think it'll all be all right now ......
I was wondering what Djokovic thought of it all?

^ Who cares what Djoko thinks. It's got nothing to do with him, although he does love expressing his opinions on just about everything.
Incidentally, did you or anyone else notice the huge BLACK LIVES MATTER placard at the side of the court when Andy played Tiafoe? It was there at the start of the match then disappeared pretty quickly.

Oh dear, the news from the W&S today of play suspended by Osaka playing a political card is so very sad. Surely her own background should tell her that races can unite successfully?
I am old enough to believe that sport should build bridges etc etc rather be the place for highlighting differences and letting the nasty side of life dictate.
Good news of the four GB players to reach semis, all now on Friday, though.
It’s a difficult one, sport / politics / racial /gender inequalities have collided over the years
Osaka, is one of the highest earning tennis players in the world, one of the reasons is because of her Japanese heritage, she is very big over there, Japan however is very racial intolerant so maybe she is making her voice heard to a different audience than just us, , I think it very telling that in the announcement about forfeiting the next match she described herself as a Black women.
It is frustrating I agree when considering the sport angle only

I read about her doing this, it's sad. Rather than not playing, how about play to win then take some if not all of your winnings to help those people who need help. The same with the basketball not playing in the playoffs.

It was sad to hear Osaka pulling out, but now she is back in. I think in all sports rather than taking your ball and going home because a black person had been shot or worse killed, they should play their sport and take their winnings and use it to help those people who need help. I live in Kansas City where there was protesting and looting, and burning of businesses. What good does that do, how does that help the people of color.

That's a question I would like to see an answer to as well because to my mind treating violence with violence never did anyone any good. We've had plenty of BLM protest marches in the UK but at least on the whole they've been peaceful with only a few arrests made, and the worst damage that's happened has been statues of prominent, and not so prominent, figures from the past who were involved in the slave trade being covered with graffiti, or in one case actually being pulled down and thrown in a nearby river.

I wonder what he thinks, that's all. I don't particularly care. But he is the No 1 player so he might have some thoughts he could share with us?
I didn't see Andy's match, I haven't got Amazon Prime. But I can imagine the placard you mean.

I agree they should play their sport and use their earnings to help anyone who needs help.
Protests and looting & burning businesses doesn't help & doesn't actually make any difference to the cause in the long run.

There's loads of stuff on Tennis News 24/7 thanks to all that's going on just now in the world of tennis and in general, but you can read this about Osaka -
