Murray beats Gombos in Mallorca

By for MurraysWorld.com on
Andy Murray reached the third round of the Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Norbert Gombos.

The match was repeatedly delayed due to inclement weather and it was 10pm when the players finally made it onto the court. After an easy win in the first round Murray endured a sterner test from his 115 ranked Slovakian opponent.

Gombos hits a hard ball, and the Brit had ample opportunity to demonstrate that his defensive instincts remain intact. Movement on court still requires work, but the improvement since his singles return in Cincinnati is obvious.

"I think I did well, it was a tough match," said Murray. "He hits his shots very hard, so I had to do quite a lot of moving and defending. There are things I'd like to do better, but it was a good match. I don't play tomorrow, so that's nice to get a day to rest and recover. That's important at this stage of my comeback."

Murray will face  Matteo Viola on Thursday.
It's good that he has a day off now.

Well done Andy - things are going well for you  yay

(Thanks Phil, for the report) Smile
