Murray thrashes Fish in San Jose
By Mark Sanger for MurraysWorld.com on February 14, 2006, 06:43 am
Andy Murray cruised into the second round of the SAP Open in San Jose with a straight-sets win over Mardy Fish.
Murray avenged a defeat in his only other match against the American with a 6-2 6-2 victory. The Briton had lost his previous match against Fish in Indianapolis last year in three sets.
Murray said:
Murray could now meet another American, James Blake, in the second round if the fifth seed defeats Taipei's Yeu-Tzuoo Wang as expected in their first-round clash.

I definitely get the feeling that Andy is now settling into his tennis in 2006. The signs were there in his match against Ljubicic and he appears to have recovered quickly.

Murray said:
That's the best match I've played this year so far. I feel like I'm hitting well and I was moving well.
I've been struggling with my serve. But I've practised a lot in the last couple of weeks and I was happy with my serve tonight.
Since I played him last year, this time I knew his strengths and weaknesses - and it helped me get my position early in the rally.
I was aggressive on the right balls and I was taking risks and I played a really solid match. I'm really happy with how it went.

Very much looking forward to the next few months!

And jumping back into Shallowville, it doesn't look like Andy has lost the hair, great start to the tournament though.

Telegraph....dear god, the punning
Quote
Mardy Fish has plainly heard all the puns and wisecracks about his name, and no doubt he does not find any of them particularly amusing after a miserable time on court.
However, after his opening-round defeat at the San Jose tournament in California yesterday, the American may well have been moved to agree that he had been gutted, battered, and deep-fried.
His opponent, Britain's Andy Murray, was that good, his rolling forehands and sliced backhands as incisive and penetrative as a fisherman's knife slashing through gills.
